Today, I slept in late. I was exhausted from traveling. Then my host family & I went for a walk. I assumed that meant in the neighborhood....wrong. We drove a half hour to a park near a giant lake. When we got there it was raining, but we still walked in the rain for a little while. Then we took a ferry to an island where I had the best schnitzel of my life! It was sooo amazing! Unfortunately no picture this time. Oh and it came with fried potatoes! Made my day!! The ferry to the island literally takes longer to start the engine of the boat than the actual ride. They also have a car ferry. You have to pull the cable and move yourself and the "barge" along to the other side. Thank goodness we didn't take our car over haha.
That evening I had tickets to opera. I went to see Barber of Seville. It was AMAZING!! It was my first opera. I didn't think I would like an opera. I thought it would just be fat ladies singing really loud, but it wasn't. It was an actual story with set changes and everything. The cast was soo good! The show was very long though...2.5 hours. When it was over, people were cheering so loud! We were on one of the upper balconies and the cheers were deafening. Either people appreciate opera more here, or they were the best opera cast ever! Either way, it was a great first opera for me!
Oh, and to top off my night. I realized I had to go to the McD in the main train station to write a paper comparing it to the McD in the US. The McDonald's here is much nicer. And most of them serve beer. Also, they don't have as many choices. Only about 6 value meals to choose from. It's also a little bit more expensive here, especially considering the shitty exchange rate. Oh and the food is actually of quality. It tastes good and actually looks the pictures! I was impressed!
