Botanischer Garten (10.25.10)

This week was so long. It was hard getting back in the schedule of school. None of my professors had our midterms graded. I guess they went on vacation as well. Today Trevor & I decided to go to the Botanischer Garten for our weekly Thursday field trip haha.

It was so beautiful! The trees still had some color. Oh I should preface that by saying that until this week, Berlin's leaves just turned brown and fell. No color changing at all. It really was quite sad seeing all the leaves falling, but no gorgeous colors. But finally, they started to change colors, but not any awesome colors like Indiana. Just browns and yellows. And the occasional red - but that was rare!

Anyway, the gardens were very nice and peaceful. It really was a beautiful day walking around in there! Oh and on the way home, we stopped at my favorite ice cream place. You get fat just walking in there. The smells are amazing!! Like no other shop. I almost said I'll take whatever that smell is. Instead I got my usual vanilla ice cream. It is to die for! Like heaven in your mouth. And also apfelstrudel. They have it in glass cups that they microwave when someone buys it. Let me just say, the mix of hot and cold and vanilla with apple strudel....heavenly!! I would say you must try it, but no one can do it as good as this shop ;)

Tonight, Malia, Trevor, & I went to our first Stammtisch. It's a gather for our FU BEST program at a bar each week. This week it just happened to be more of a restaurant, with a bar type atmosphere downstairs. So of course I was ecstatic to get some Spanish food. I ordered one plates of tapas and an empanada. The tapas I order were spicy potatoes...and man were they spicy! The empanada was huge! I wasn't expecting a meal out of just that. Oh and sangria....I've never seen them make sangria as a mixed drink, but they did. It looked like shit...a brown color, but it tasted pretty good once I got past the color of it. I am definitely going to a tapas restaurant when I get back to Chi town :) Since Malia was talking a little bit of Spanish to the waiter, he brought us free shots after we paid. It was a terrible shot of licorice, but nonetheless FREE!
