Berliner Zoo (10.30.10)

Today, Thimo and I planned to go to the zoo together. I always heard Germans are on time, but that hasn't been my experience. Each time our planned time passed, he would say oh in another hour. Anyway, I won't get into that. We did end up going. Berlin has 2 zoos, but we went to the one in Charlottenburg, which is near where we live. The zoo in East Berlin is more like a park, or so says my host dad.

The zoo was actually really cool!! I felt like a little kid, so amused by the animals. One major difference is that the animals aren't caged like they are in the US. Instead they have a giant trench in between you and the animals, so that they can't escape. Of course the tigers and the like are still caged. Their animals actually looked much happier, getting all that fresh air and freedom to walk around. They had every kind of animal you can imagine! They even had cows, pinks, and horses. I guess they don't get to see those animals since they live in the city. We came a little after feeding time for the lions. It was quite savage watching them rip the meat off the bones. I couldn't help but imagine what they could do to my bones.

Their zoo was quite large. AND it was clean! Maybe I've just had bad experiences with zoos in the US, but I've never been to a clean one. Thimo was quite bored with me. I could tell he didn't want to be there. He loves watching TV and playing on his iTouch. I even offered to get him ice cream, but to no avail.

After the zoo, I napped it up to get ready for Halloween tonight. I didn't dress up. I'm not such a fan of Halloween. I don't like scary things. I think it stems from people always hiding in the dark and jumping out and scaring me. Oh...and there was a gorilla dressed up at the zoo and I was scared of him. I can't stand masks. I don't know - it's something about not being able to see the person's real face. Anywho, I'm scared of people dressed up...and the dark.

Back to Halloween: Malia wanted to go to a karaoke bar. She loves to sing and is very good at it. I, on the other hand, am NOT good and don't like to sing except when I'm alone in the car. Trevor & I agreed to go along as long as we didn't have to sing. On the way there we saw a lot of people dressed up...but not cute, fun dressed up. Dressed up scary...like really scary. Blood and all. In fact there was a blood trail down the sidewalk. I almost freaked out until Malia assured me it was fake blood. Oh and Halloween has only recently become more popular. It is by no means as popular as in the US. There are only a few bars/clubs that offer Halloween parties. My host family said that some kids do go trick or treating, but it's more common in the suburbs.

Back to the karaoke bar: It turned out to be a GAY bar. ROFL!! HAHA! It was still fun, but the music was terrible. We decided to leave. Malia went to a Halloween party, and Trevor & I went to the popular bar area. First bar, was a fail. But second bar was AMAZING! I saw a ton of cops standing outside the door, so I said we have to go in. It had a really awesome atmosphere. Drinks weren't too expensive either. I have no idea where time went, but before we knew it the bar was closing. It was one hell of a walk home. I got to my bed somewhere around 6:30 or 7 AM. Haha!
