This picture doesn't even actually show how horrible traffic is in Rome. Oh and they aren't pedestrian friendly at all. In fact a lot of streets don't have crosswalks or lights.

Initial glimpse of the Vatican

Vatican square - all this was packed with people when the Pope made his appearance.

Already set up for the Pope. See the buildings all the way at the back: the crowd extended all the way back there.
