We left Caen at 7:30AM. They had projected 14 hours to get to Berlin. I took a few croissants from breakfast. My seatmate was Malia this time. I begged her for Dramamine to knock me out. It definitely worked! Normally I would have been too nice to lay my seat back and sleep, but at this point I didn't care. I wanted sleep.
The day passed by in a blur of stopping to buy crappy food, sleeping, and talking. It was such a relief when the bus driver pulled out a movie. It was Clash of the Titans. Again, not a movie I would ever watch, but it was better than staring out the window. An ok movie, but I wouldn't watch it again. Then they put the movie Speed in. I was surprised by how many people hadn't seen it. I remember watching it often when I was little. Everyone said how the bus drivers were taunting us. (If you haven't seen it, it's about a bunch of people on a bus that must stay above 55 mph or it blows up.)
We got to Berlin around 11PM. I was actually awake from all the sleeping on the bus, well that and the sugar. Malia stayed over. She had so much stuff to take home - with her 12 bags of hair. Her host sister is African and her hair breaks off easily, so they apparently put extensions in her hair. They had her buy it in Paris because it's cheaper there. It was in such a shady neighborhood! As soon as she walked out of the train station in Paris, a police officer approached her and asked what she was doing there. He said she should leave as soon as possible, because it's a dangerous area. Wow! I'm glad my host family didn't require any such purchases! Way to be a trooper Malia!
